Instrumentation

  • Woodwinds: 2 flutes, piccolo, 2 oboes, English horn, 2 clarinets, bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, contrabassoon.
  • Brass: 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba.
  • Timpani: prepared with crotales and a cymbal.
  • Percussion I: vibraphone (with bow), crotales (at least one full octave), xylophone, Balinese gongs (D, A), 5 temple blocks, flexatone; optional lithophone, ratchet or whip. Pitches used on the timpani may be excluded from the crotales.
  • Percussion II: bass drum, 2 cowbells, marimba, glockenspiel, 3 concert toms, snare drum, tam-tam, tubular bells. The concert toms are preferably tuned in perfect fourths (0, 5, 10).
  • Harp; piano and celesta.
  • Strings: 8.8.6.5.4, the minimum complement for divisi.

  • 木管： 2 長笛、短笛、2 雙簧管、英國管、2 單簧管、低音單簧管、2 巴松管、低音巴松管。
  • 銅管： 4 法國號、3 小號、3 長號、大號。
  • 定音鼓： 以古鈸與鈸作預置。
  • 打擊樂 I： 顫音琴（含弓奏）、古鈸（至少一個完整八度）、木琴、峇里島鑼（D、A）、5 木魚、彈簧振音器；可另選石琴、棘輪或鞭。古鈸可省去定音鼓部分已使用的音高。
  • 打擊樂 II： 大鼓、2 牛鈴、馬林巴、鐘琴、3 筒鼓、小鼓、銅鑼、管鐘。筒鼓宜以純四度定音（0、5、10）。
  • 豎琴；鋼琴與鋼片琴。
  • 弦樂： 8.8.6.5.4，為分部演奏所需的最低人數。
